All our lives, we have been told not to aim for perfection but to progress every day. Repeatedly, these words have shone a light of discouragement on the word ‘perfect’ in the path of attaining success.

We have been told to not worry about being perfect, but to focus on the minor efforts that help us progress.

But what if ‘Perfection’ is not as bad as we made it out to be? What if you don’t have to choose between progress and perfect?

Perfection is nothing, it doesn’t exist, that is why nobody can achieve it. But something that is nearest to that non-existent perfection is perfection. Tricky I know.

“Progress over perfection” makes ‘perfection’ sound to be nothing; it portrays perfection as attainable.

But in ‘Progress with Perfection’ to attain that perfection; perfection is perceived as everything. You have to give your everything to have that perfection.

Now don’t be misguided that you have to run behind perfection, no. but you just have to try to be perfect. The difference is—want to and to be.

Now, how do you attain that perfection?

We have a perfect example of perfection: A Tree. Look at a tree, or rather look at a small seed that has the potential to grow and become a tree.

From its beginning stage as a seed to the small stem that will eventually sprout leaves, those leaves will provide the nutrition to grow the plant.

The roots will strengthen to support the majesty of the tree. Now, what is not perfect in the tree? Nothing. Every single leaf, every twig, every branch, the trunk — has grown to perfection. And the reason is its efforts.

In the entire process of its growth, the tree has shown patience. Patience against time, patience against the pace of progress, and patience against all the rough winds and insects.

That is what we must do. Because when we give all the effort, when we give our best, at that moment we have reached nearest to the perfection which makes the work perfect.

Conclusion

When you do some work, don’t try to be perfect. But then what about the competition in the world?

We cannot be perfect, but just like the tree, if we give everything we have got to attain that perfection, naturally the work will be perfect — Shabdagar.
